My paper "Vulpine Alchemy" in T'oung Pao 82 (1996), pp. 364-80 discussed Chinese stories that show fox spirits engaged in Daoist Inner Alchemy practices who appear as beautiful women in order to bewitch men and suck away their energy, but also curing them. So wearing high heels, getting breast enhancements or binding their feet is just a way to enslave us? And how does this fit in with the finding that attractive professors consistently outscore their less comely colleagues by a significant margin on student evaluations of teaching?
